Photography Field Trips / Workshops

Are you interested in nature photography field trips? Want to learn more about the "how to" of nature photography? Enjoy getting out into the countryside, and would like to visit the Lac Brome, Eastern Townships area?

Then I am available for one-on-one, or small groups of 2 or 3 photographer’s workshops while touring this wonderful Eastern Township's countryside. I know several areas of this countryside quite well and for areas that I don’t know but that you know, and then we can explore them together.

To be most effective I suggest these sessions are booked in 3-hour time slices or half day, or even a full day on weekends.

The best time time of day for field trips?

Early mornings and late in the afternoons are the best times of the day to take photographs. If you are an early riser, then the half hour before sunrise and the next two hours after sunrise. If that is way too early, then during the last 2 hours before sunset and a half hour after sunset. But if it is late fall, or winter time or very early spring, then its all day.

Why? you may be asking yourself. Well, it has to do with the low angle of the sun during those periods as it provides the best type of warm lighting and produces great shadows and texture in the images.

What if it’s cloudy or slightly overcast?

Well, this is the best time to shoot photos in the wooded areas because the sunlight is filtered so you have a good even light instead of the harsh spots of bright sunlight that make for very dark shadows.

If it is winter, then bring your snowshoes, and make sure you come properly dressed and bring covers for your camera equipment to keep it warm and “out of the weather”. It does not always have to be a bright sunny day to take nature photographs. In fact some of the most interesting images are taken on a "less than perfect" weather day.

Destination Knowlton

Looking for information on places to stay and what local events may be happening? Maybe you would like to know “how to” shoot an event, such as the Lac Brome Tour Du Lac bike race. If you are not that familiar with this beautiful area, visit the Destination Knowlton website. (Opens New Window)

Stowe, Vermont

Even the drive down to Stowe from the Knowlton area is worth the experience, especially along route 108 going up and over Smuggler's Notch and down into Stowe. There are numerous places to stop, hiking trails and picnic areas.

On the Stowe website, pay special attention to their Events Calendar as the summer months have interesting antique car shows, a hot air balloon festival, and a few saturday photo workshops hosted by local professional photographers in some very picturesque locations in the hills around Stowe.
