White Balance Settings

In last month's newsletter under the heading "The Leaves Are Turning" I make reference to making sure you use the right setting for white balance. I know that many of you leave this parameter set to Auto.

If you would like to learn more about this setting, how it works and its impact on images, then click on this link White Balance. (If this link does not work, you can go to www.inside-nature-photography.com, click on Photography Techniques and you will find the White Balance subject.) As part of this page, you will see 2 links to other sites that will explain this parameter in detail and they have included a number of great examples of what happens depending on the setting you have selected.

This page is just as important for point and shoot cameras as it is for digital SLR cameras.

A November Shooting Challenge For You

In the last newsletter I had a "Fall Shooting Challenge" but I never heard from any of you in terms of how well it went? Did any of you go to some of the outdoor markets to shoot some of the fall vegetables?

Here is the November challenge, which comes from our digital photography class. Remember our discussions about "painting with light" which in Greek means Photography by the way. So, please get out your flashlights and begin painting. The image at the right comes from Tina where she attempted to photograph some of her flowers using her flashlight.

The Canadian Nature Photographer

Here is another site I am sure will interest you. Especially those of you who are into nature photography. It has some great galleries, interesting articles, possible workshops and some online training as well as featuring some very good Canadian photographers. You can access the site directly from this newsletter Click Here or you can get to it by going to my website www.inside-nature-photographer.com, then click on Photo Associations page and scroll down to The Canadian Nature Photographer.

Language Translation

Some of you have requested that my website be translated into French if possible. That is a somewhat large task to say the least as it means that every new page and any changes to a page, then the work must be done twice.

Now having said that, there are a number of Internet translation software out there, some are better than others. Of the products I have looked at so far, I have found the Google translation software to be the best. Consequently, as I have been updating existing pages and adding new pages I have included this Google Translation tool at the top of each page.

Hopefully you will find it useful and reasonably accurate. As I progress through my website, I will gradually update all the pages to include this feature.

If you have any pages that you would like to see updated immediately please let me know. Happy shooting.
